Sold Out Church is announcing that Derek Jones has been removed as Lead Pastor. This was a decision made by the Sold Out Leadership team and the Accountability Team that Derek put in place as a judiciary committee for any actions of his that would disqualify him as Pastor. It is their responsibility to guide, rebuke, or make the final decision as to whether Derek fits the description of a Pastor as laid out in 1 Timothy 3. Thursday night (5/11/18) Derek was arrested and charged with domestic battery. A further description of his actions would serve no purpose other than fuel gossip and curiosity. Sold Out Church loves Derek and his family and will continue to support them during this season of their lives to achieve personal healing. But we cannot turn a blind eye to Derek’s choices/actions. We can all agree that the entire Jones family has served faithfully for many years and pray this will not detract from the amazing works God has done through Derek and his family.
Moving forward, Derek will no longer be a part of Sold Out Church, but Sold Out Church will not stray from the mission God has placed on our hearts to introduce Jesus to a hurting world. You can look anywhere around Sold Out Church and find stories of healing. Stories of drug addicted men and women who met Jesus Christ and experienced life change. Stories of marriages that were nearly in ashes but through the introduction of Jesus Christ we have seen marriages restored and vows renewed. The thing is that Sold Out Church is not about Derek Jones. Sold Out Church is about Jesus Christ; and through the guidance of the Leadership team, and adherence to Jesus Christ and biblical teaching, Sold Out Church will continue to be a place of healing, a place of refuge, and as we’ve been saying lately, a place for everyone.
